New for 1967, the Mercury 1100 SS was the most-powerful outboard motor in the world at the time. These inline 6-cylinder outboards were nicknamed “Tower of Power” due to their unusual height. They were also very reliable due to electronic ignition, which eliminated the need for breaker points.I am offering for sale as is unit serial number 2158760 with original MerControl and cables, electro-hydraulic lift, fuel tank, strong wood stand on casters, plus all 3 Manuals: Shop Maintenance, Parts and Repair manuals, a Flusher (to run the motor with water from a garden hose) and a couple of original spare parts (see picture). This outboard is complete and in fair cosmetic shape, it had good compression on all 6 cylinders, has not been used in salt water, but it has been in storage (indoors) for a few years, therefore requiring service to bring it back to life. The previous seller did not have a starter cogged belt to run it (a new OEM part is included) when I bought it. The motor does have a cable starter pulley, but it must be hard to crank such a large outboard manually. I had the MerControl cables restored but not yet tested with the motor. The gas tank needs to be painted, as does the outboard itself (Color: “Phantom Black”). Most parts for these motors, when needed, are still available on eBay and from a few dealers. For more information about these 6-cylinder outboards from Mercury or for parts, visit https://www.oldmercs.com/category_s/847.htmThis impressive Mercury would be perfect for a 60s boat or just for display, given its fame and uniqueness. My plan was to restore it, but I do not have suitable space for such a project, and I am getting a bit too old for that… NOTE: This outboard is quite heavy to be lifted and put in a crate, therefore the buyer must make arrangements for local pickup on its wood stand. Pictures show it loaded on a F-150.Asking price: $950.00 firmLocated in St. Joseph, MIThank you for your interest!
