Traditionally, of course, South Coast Boatyards were centres of manufacturing excellence. That tradition continues today as luxury boatbuilders Sunseeker have taken over the Legend Yacht manufacturing facilities at Osprey Quay, Portland from the former owners.

Sunseeker is planning to employ up to 500 skilled staff at the 11.5 acre site over the next four years.

With demand for Sunseeker motoryachts growing year on year, specifically for the larger models for overseas customers, the need for more waterside production space has been an important issue for Sunseeker.

With further investments being made at the company’s shipyard headquarters in Poole these new facilities will allow Sunseeker to meet future demand.

All adds to the growth of the local economy and uses the boatbuilding skills available in the area.

There is a lesson here, that manufacturing of luxury goods can cater for markets with products that might appear of limited affordability if viewed only from the viewpoint of a local prospective customer base.
