McMurdo Safety
Equipment
Leisure marine EPIRBs, PLBs and
SARTs
Whether coastal cruising, offshore sailing or
jet-skiing, the ability to alert the search and rescue
authorities, should you find yourself in difficulty, is
vitally important. McMurdo produce a range of products
specifically designed to get assistance to you in the
shortest possible time. For jet-skiers, yacht crews,
shorthanded sailors and watersports enthusiasts we have
developed the Fastfind Personal Locator
Beacon.
For yachts, powerboats and RIBs we have the new
Smartfind range of EPIRBs, available with either a manual
bracket or a float free automatic housing. A good source
of weather information is also an important part of
safety afloat. McMurdo offers a range of NAVTEX receivers
that will display weather and shipping information either
on a clear mono screen with the NAV6 or in colour with
large font options with the new NAV-7.
EPIRBs Emergency Position
Indicating Rescue Beacons
Whether pottering about in coastal waters or
cruising offshore the EPIRB (Emergency Position
Indicating Radio Beacon) should be considered a vital
part of your vessels safety inventory. The Smartfind
EPIRB operates on the 406Mhz global satellite rescue
system ensuring that your emergency signal can be sent
from anywhere in the world.
The Smartfind Plus EPIRB benefits from a
dedicated built in GPS sending a highly accurate location
position typically +/- 50metres within a few minutes of
switching the unit on. This enables the rescue
authorities to greatly reduce their search time. It can
be purchased with one of two mounting options, the Carry
Safe Manual Bracket or the Auto Float Free
Housing.
PLBs Personal Location
Beacon
The Fastfind range of Personal Location Beacons
has all the benefits of the 406MHz EPIRB except that they
are registered to an individual as opposed to a vessel.
They operate on the 406Mhz global satellite rescue system
ensuring that your emergency signal can be sent from
anywhere in the world. They also transmit a 121.5MHz
homing signal and the Fastfind Plus version benefits from
a dedicated built in GPS sending a highly accurate
location position typically +/- 50metres within a few
minutes of switching the unit on.
This enables the rescue authorities to greatly
reduce their search time. There is also a -40°C battery
option for colder climates. The Fastfind is of particular
benefit if you are moving from boat to boat or having to
work on deck in adverse weather conditions. It is compact
and comes complete with a pouch and lanyard ensuring that
you can safely move around without fear of losing the
unit
SARTs Search And Rescue
Transponder
The SART (Search And Rescue Transponder) is
designed to assist in the rescue and recovery of
liferafts and survival craft. The SART is normally stowed
in the liferaft ready for any emergency. Once the unit is
turned on it sits in standby, conserving power until it
is automatically activated by the signal sweep of an
X-band Radar of a passing vessel. The radar will then
instantly display a straight line of 12 dots on the radar
screen. Identifying to the ships crew that there is a
survival craft within 100metres of the last
dot.
Grab Bags
McMurdo Safety Equipment also offers a range of
Grab Bags designed to meet the needs of recreational
boaters. Whether coastal cruising in a 25foot powerboat
or bluewater sailing in a 40 foot cruising yacht, we have
an emergency grab bag to suit. McMurdo Grab Bags are
waterproof, buoyant and made of a high visibility
material. The Grab Bag XL also includes an external EPIRB
pocket and flare storage compartment.
NAVTEX
Weather and shipping information are key to an
enjoyable and safe time on the water. McMurdo Safet
Equipment's range of NAVTEX receivers are designed to be
easy to operate and have large clear screens.
Options within the NAV6 range enable instrument
data to also be displayed on the screen making it ideal
for navigation stations where space for multiple
instruments is limited. The professional standard NAV-7
represents the cutting edge in NAVTEX
technology.
The high bright colour screen, large font option
and massage sorting functions all add to make this one of
the best NAVTEX receivers available.
