The National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) is a non-profit organization that certifies marine surveyors and provides continuing education opportunities. NAMS’ membership is international and, once certified, its members carry the NAMS-Certified Marine Surveyor (NAMS-CMS) designation after their names.

 

From recreational boats to commercial ships, NAMS members survey new and used vessels to determine their condition and value. NAMS members also survey cargo, machinery, docks, wharfs, marinas, and handling equipment related to the marine industry. NAMS members routinely investigate marine claims and act as expert trial witnesses.

The Small Ships Group (SSG) maintains a register of Small Ship Surveyor members who have proven their competence and commitment to small ship surveying through a Professional Review process.

 

The SSG is a specialist interest group of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) for members working or intending to work in the field of research design and construction, surveying and consultancy, operation and maintenance with marine vessels of all descriptions generally of length less than 50 metres or under 500 tons gross.

The Yacht Brokers, Designers and Surveyors’ Association is the only UK based Professional Association for Yacht Brokers, Designers and Surveyors. It incorporates the Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents (ABYA) and the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA). The Association was originally formed in 1912. Membership is on an individual basis, and Members are usually admitted as Affiliates, and Surveyors/Designers may not advertise using the logo or letters until they have been up-graded to become an Associate. There are further categories of Full, Fellow and Honorary, which is given for exceptional services to the Association. We have members overseas, and many UK based members undertake work overseas.
