GME GPS equipped epirbs
GME’s GPS EQUIPPED EPIRB’s GAIN COSPAS SARSAT APPROVAL
Plymouth 28 March 2008 – SM Group (Europe) Ltd., the United Kingdom's exclusive distributor for Australia’s leading marine electronic equipment manufacturer GME, are pleased to announce GME has just received COSPAS SARSAT approval for its GPS equipped Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons, the manually and water activated MT403G and the automatic MT403FG.
The new models incorporate 16 Channel GPS receivers that in an emergency will allow transmission of the beacon’s latitude and longitude as well as the identification of the owner. This will result in a much faster emergency response time through the geostationary GEOSAR satellite constellation and most importantly a reduced search and rescue area, typically less than 100 metres compared to around 5 kilometres with conventional 406MHz beacons.
Kevin Turner of SM Group (Europe) Ltd commented
“This is terrific news, the approval of the GME MT403G and MT403FG beacons further strengthens the GME brand in the market with the MT410/G PLB’s and MT401/401FF NON GPS EPIRBS already selling well on both feature advantages and price competitiveness.
Now with a full emergency beacons portfolio including manual, water and automatic activated EPIRBs, PLBs and now GPS beacons, we have a safety solution for all contingencies be it pleasure boating, commercial shipping, general aviation or land based activities.”
The MT403G and its derivative the auto-release MT403FG, will be available for sale from May this year. The MT403G will retail for around £439.00 including value added tax with the MT403FG retailing for around £629.00 including value added tax.

SPOT satellite messengers
SPOT APPOINTS LEADING DISTRIBUTOR FOR EUROPEAN ROLL OUT
SPOT, manufacturer of the world’s first satellite messenger has appointed SM Group (Europe) as their UK distributor.
Having specialised in the distribution of electronics for marine and outdoor markets for over 25 years, SPOT will sit comfortably with SM Group’s comprehensive portfolio of leading brands.
The distribution deal follows SPOT’s European launch which took place last month in Munich at one of the worlds largest outdoor tradeshows - ISPO Winter.
Greg Tees, General Manager of SPOT Europe comments:
“SPOT has proved to be very successful in the USA and Canada and we expect to mirror this around the globe with the next step being the UK. We want to make the great outdoors more accessible and see SPOT satellite messengers as a means to do this, providing a lifeline at the touch of a button.
“It is vital to the success of SPOT Europe that we secure the right distributor, one which is well established and a specialist in our core markets – the outdoor and marine industry. We are therefore delighted to be working with SM Group who impressed us with their glowing credentials and we look forward to moving SPOT satellite messengers into the UK market place“
As the first device of its kind, SPOT gives you a vital line of communication with friends and family when you want it and emergency assistance when and where you need it. Users can check in with loved ones, allow others to track their progress or call for help.
Built with safety in mind, SPOT uses satellite technology allowing it to work where mobile phones do not, providing users with a lifeline to receive help at their exact location, wherever that may be.
For the first time, this lifesaving technology is now available to the everyday consumer making SPOT an essential part of any outdoor adventurer’s kit.
SPOT can help guard against potentially life threatening situations, allowing people to get out there and enjoy the great outdoors. The simple four button design has four main functions that ensure safety and piece of mind for outdoor pursuits.
· 911: Dispatches emergency services to your exact location using GPS co-ordinates.
· Help: Request help from selected friends and family through SMS text messages, or emails with a link to Google Maps™ which show your exact location.
· Check In: Allows you to let friends and family know that all is well, notify them of your location, or save waypoints so you can review your route at a later date.
· Track Progress: Allow friends and family to follow your progress in real time, or save waypoints to view your entire route at a later date using Google Maps™.
SPOT is the first product of its kind, it works where mobile phones don’t and communicates what GPS systems can’t providing the user and their loved ones with peace of mind.
Safety is at SPOT’s core, but it does a lot more than provide emergency assistance. Tracking progress, checking in with loved ones and non emergency assistance are all available at the touch of a button.
The device has already received global recognition with two prestigious accolades - The 2008 Innovations Design and Engineering Award from the Consumer Electronics Association and the Spring 2008 Cabela’s Buyers’ Choice Gold Medal Award.
Chris Northmore, Managing Director of SM Group (Europe) Ltd comments, “We are delighted to add such an innovative product as SPOT satellite messengers to our catalogue. We are continually searching to find new products to distribute and with SPOT’s unique features we feel that we have a product which adds to our range without directly competing with existing products”.
