The Liferaft Hire Company.
In the space of about 10 years PREMIUM LIFERAFT SERVICES grew from a proposed semi-retirement business to the largest dedicated Liferaft hire business in the UK. (probably the world) and it still maintains that position today.
In the Late 70's Founder `Pip' Barr saw a gap in the market when he had trouble renting a Liferaft for a North Sea crossing.
On returning from the trip he bought the dozen or so rafts from the company he had hired from and at the next London Boat Show struck a deal with then Managing Director of Lifeguard Equipment Ltd., Rex Smith, to buy Lifeguard rafts.
Within four years PREMIUM LIFERAFT SERVICES had grown large enough to employ Pip's youngest son Matthew and 2 and a half years later Servicing Manager Andy Wade, both of whom are still with the company.
High interest rates and increasing demand saw the business go from strength to strength. Premium's formula of good, friendly and helpful service proved to be a winning one.
1989 saw Pip taken ill and Tony Cash joined the company. Unfortunately early in 1990 Pip died, leaving Matthew & Tony in charge as Joint managing directors. In 2002 Tony's retirement left Matthew in soul charge.
As the company continued to grow more space was needed and in 1996 PREMIUM LIFERAFT SERVICES built their own premises which provided new offices and 5000 sq. foot of servicing station on the Burnham Business park.
This facility is approved by the Marine Safety Agency and no fewer than 8 safety equipment manufacturers for the service of Liferafts, Lifejackets, dinghies and other items of safety equipment.
Today PREMIUM LIFERAFT SERVICES has a stock in excess of 1800 Liferafts for rent to the commercial & leisure sector.
We have ISAF approved liferafts, ISO approved liferafts & ORC approved liferafts for yacht racing. CoP rafts for the charter sector, MCA approved liferafts for commercial users and Open reversible rafts for Passenger carriers.
