GRP mouldings

This year we were very lucky to secure an order to cut the 5 axis cnc patterns and produce the glassfibre moulds and grp mouldings for the new Oyster 92.

The design was finalised at the end of May and we will shortly be receiving final issue CAD data to enable us to do the pattern cutting in our purpose built facility in Poole on our new CMS Poseidon 5 Axis CNC router. The 36.5m x 6m x 3m CNC milling machine is the largest CMS router in the UK.

Boat hulls

The boat hulls will be machined in two separate parts but such is the accuracy of CNC tools we will be able to confidently join both parts back together after production of the composite moulds.

The 27m long patterns will be made up with a fully engineered steel skeleton frame with plywood, EPS foam and epoxy tooling paste. This will be machined back and faired to P150 and then we will apply a Duratec clear sealer, vinyl ester grey surface primer and then finally a vinyl ester high gloss topcoat in black.

The patterns will then go through finishing processes, be machined and polished to P1500 on the top sides to give a deep gloss level of 90GU at 60 degrees. Final Quality Assurance inspections and sign off meetings with the client will take place prior to composite mould making taking place.

In line with our ISO 9001 and Quality procedures manual lamination of the mould tools will include a detailed stage inspection plan to ensure the right thickness, orientation and type of materials are used in the construction of the fibreglass mould tools. This will be overseen by our Quality Management team.

This will be the largest single mould made at Norco to date. Weighing around 15 tonnes and measuring 27m x 6m x 2.8m. Our facilities team will then organise crane lifts, turns and delivery direct to the client.

Glassfibre mouldings for keel stubs and rear transoms.

Glassfibre mouldings will then be made for keel stubs and rear transoms by our dedicated team.
