Lifejackets and buoyancy aids

Crewsaver Lifejackets

Inflatable Lifejackets - Crewfit & Freedom

Since its inception, the Crewfit continues to set the boundaries for manufacture and quality and remains the industry standard by which other brands measure themselves.

The Crewfit is still the best inflatable Lifejacket available and is worn by professionals, leading sailors and powerboat racers worldwide.

To prolong the working life of your Lifejacket it should be serviced annually.

It is important that you pick the correct CE Category to suit your type of activity and experience.

Air Foam Lifejackets

Air Foam Lifejackets contain closed cell foam to give them permanent buoyancy. They are also fitted with an inflation chamber which is inflated by mouth. Uninflated the BSI is a Buoyancy Aid, the Seachild range is a 100N Lifejacket. They only act as a 150N class Lifejacket when fully inflated.

They are easy to don and comfortable to wear.

Foam Lifejackets

Manufactured to conform with the EN395 Standard, suitable for inshore and offshore sailing, Crewsaver's new and improved range of 100N Foam Lifejackets is designed specifically to suit the smallest sailors in the crew.

Safety Harnesses

Crewsaver manufacture a full range of 50mm webbing Harnesses, all CE Approved to the latest European Standards.

High quality stainless steel is used to form the 'D' rings, cancelling any magnetic interference with navigational equipment. All models also have back separators to stop straps from getting tangled and shoulder straps from slipping off.

Crewsaver Shield Buoyancy Aids

Buoyancy aids have evolved from chunky waistcoats to the kind of minimalist design epitomised by Crewsaver’s Shield.

Go shopping for buoyancy aids and you’ll find a huge choice. However, Crewsaver have one big advantage — they are renowned for producing top quality lifejackets, with a databank of knowledge to benefit their buoyancy aid designs.

It’s really easy to slip on and off, with a quick-release side-buckle and adjustable main strap; the shoulders are also adjustable. You hardly notice it’s on. It’s got a maze of pockets including one specially designed for your ‘SAFETY KNIFE’ (marked in big letters!) with an anchor for the lanyard.

Despite the minimal design, 50N of buoyancy provided by the M/L size keeps you bobbing in the water without any tendency to ride up. The Shield is a trim fit and doesn’t have bits which are likely to trap and snare you — either in the boat or down in the water.

Crewsaver Lifejackets and Safety Equipment

History

Celebrating 50 Years of safety Crewsaver's history goes back to 1957 when it was first incorporated as a company under the name of Crewsaver Marine Equipment Ltd.

1968-1977

A glance at one of their early catalogues reveals a product range including Blocks, Cleats, Lifejackets and Buoyancy Aids. From 1968 Crewsaver expanded quickly as they developed specialist knowledge in safety products, creating their own styles tailored to specific sectors of the sailing community. In 1973 they had to find

larger premises to house their new business. When Ratsey and Lapthorne moved their sail loft to Cowes, Crewsaver were able to take over their 20,000 sq.ft. building in Gosport.

1978-1987

Up until 1983 Crewsaver had been owned privately when, due to the company's success and high profile within the marine industry, Crewsaver became part of a bedding manufacturer and then the subject of a management buy-out. Crewsaver became pioneers in the design of new gas operated air-only lifejackets, which delivered many more feature-benefits as well as increasing overall safety for the user.

The Crewfit range was effectively established as a worldwide benchmark for the design and function of lifejackets for the leisure user.

1988-1997

By 1996, company chiefs recognised the need for an injection of capital, to help it ensure its rate of growth was to be maintained. To that end, the company was sold to Cosalt plc, a leading supplier to the commercial marine market; an obvious and natural match and one which continues to help fuel the brand's growth.

1997-2007

Today Crewsaver is recognised as one of the foremost suppliers of lifejackets and dinghy sailing equipment in the world. Crewsaver products can be found in places such as ocean cruising, oil exploration, dinghy racing, security and search & rescue operations.

Due to the demands of the trade, Crewsaver expanded its approach into general water sport sectors, by branding extensions into the surf market (CSR range) and paddling market (Yak range).
