Great Circle Rigging is the industrial rigging division of Storrar Marine which has been established for over 35 years.

We manufacture wire rope assemblies in stainless steel and galvanised wire as well as tie bar assemblies in both stainless steel and carbon steel.

We can roll swage terminals onto stainless steel wire up to 26mm diameter (one of only 3 companies in the UK to be able to roll swage to this size) giving a very neat termination to the wire. Roll swage terminals have a minimum break load which exceeds the rated minimum break load of the wire, so no strength is lost with this method of termination.

We can supply wire rope assemblies in 1X19, 7X19 and compact strand construction (such as Dyform).

1X19 stainless steel wire is relatively stiff with a high minimum break load and is the cheapest of the 3 constructions.

7 X 19 stainless steel wire has a reduced minimum break load but has more flexibility which is ideal where wires are running around a radius.

Compact strand stainless steel wire has the least flexibility and the highest minimum break load but is more expensive.

We can supply a wide variety of swage terminals to suit your application. For further details please look at our website www.greatcirclerigging.co.uk where you can also download our full technical catalogue.

Our grade 450 stainless tie bars are manufactured from a high quality 316 stainless steel with rolled threads to BS3643. The yield stress of our stainless steel tie bars is 450N/mm 2 and ultimate stress of 450N/mm 2. Supplied as standard with a right hand threaded fork one end and a left hand threaded fork at the other end, turning the tie bar one way will increase the length, turning the other way will decrease the length. Tapered lock nuts are also supplied to hide excessive thread and to give a neat transition from fork to tie bar.

The stainless tie bars are supplied in a variety of metric sizes from M10 to M39 (larger sizes available on request). Single lengths up to 6m are available with longer lengths being achieved by connecting additional bars with a coupler.

Our grade 460 carbon tie bars are manufactured from steel with a yield stress of 460N/mm 2 for tie bars of M20 and larger and 355N/mm 2 for M12 and M16. Ultimate stress for all diameter tie bars is 610N/mm 2. Supplied as standard with a right hand threaded fork one end and a left hand threaded fork at the other end, single tie bars are available up to 12m long for M20 and above and 6m long for M12 and M16. Tapered lock nuts are also supplied as standard.

Carbon tie bars can be supplied in self colour, painted or galvanised finish.

Industrial Rigging Projects

Recent projects completed include:

Hanging sculptures and objects of interest at Langley Academy, a new educational academy in Berkshire, including the gold medal winning rowing 8 from the Sydney olympics.

Manufacture and installation of fabric blinds at the University of Plymouth to stop the building overheating through a glass roof.

Design, manufacture and installation of point of sale hanging systems for a well known national supermarket chain.

Manufacture and installation of balustrade wires for an eleven storey residential complex on the banks of the River Wear in Sunderland. Over 20,000 m of 4mm wire and 3000 terminals were used on this 6 month installation.

Design and manufacture of a stainless balustrade system for the 850m long Royal Border railway bridge at Berwick upon Tweed. Almost 22 tonnes of stainless steel support posts and almost 3000m of 8mm stainless wire.
