Marine Sealants

Specialist marine sealants, designed to keep your craft afloat with excellent resistance to weathering and salt water erosion.

3M 3200 silicone sealant

3M 3200 is a mildew resistant non-sagging, moisture curing silicone rubber sealant for above water line use. It remains flexible with excellent resistance to the marine

environment. This silicone adheres to bare painted metal, fibreglass, glass, non-oily woods and many plastics and abraded rubbers. Ideal for head sealing applications. 3M 3200 has 18 months shelf-life allowing long storage unlike other products on the marine markets. 3M 3200 is removable.

3M Marine 4400 is a one-part polyurethane adhesive/sealant. It is paintable and sandable and forms watertight, weather-resistant seals on joints and boat hardware above and below the water line. Flex pack packaging provides one year shelf life and allows easier caulking with less exertion, reduces the changes in dispensers by one-third and provides less wasted product. Completely crushed when emptied, the Flex Pack product takes up minimal space in waste disposal containers. 3M 4400 is removable and is now available in 600 ml sachets.

3M Marine 4200 FC is a one part general purpose polyurethane sealant. It chemically reacts with moisture to deliver flexible bonds. It offers good adhesion to wood, fibreglass, gel coat, plastics and metals. It is paintable and sandable. It forms watertight, weather resistant seals on joints and boat hardware above or below the waterline.3M 4200 FC is removable.

Fast cure adhesive sealants...

3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200 is a high performance, one part, moisture curing polyurethane designed for marine applications above or below the waterline. In addition, its flexibility allows for dissipation of stress caused by shock, vibration, swelling, or shrinking. Structural bonding and sealing of wood, fibreglass, gelcoat, primed metals. Sealing of most plastics, glass, metal. Recommended when very high strength or permanent bonds are required.

3M Marine 4000 UV fast cure is a premium cosmetic sealant. It offers better UV resistance than most polyurethane sealants and comparable silicones. It is strong, paintable and does not exhibit dirt-collecting properties. 4000 UV has equivalent or

better adhesion to most substrates, when compared with 3M 4200 fast cure, making it a great product for most above and below the waterline applications. Recommended when very high strength bonds are required.

High performance adhesive sealants...

3M Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200 Fast Cure is a high performance, one part, moisture curing polyurethane designed for marine applications above or below the

waterline. In addition, its flexibility allows for dissipation or stress caused by shock, vibration, swelling, or shrinking. Bonding and sealing of wood, fibreglass, gel coat, primed metals. Sealing of most plastics, glass and metals.

Masking, Bonding and Attachment Systems

A comprehensive choice of adhesive tapes, adhesives and fastening systems designed to give peak performance, even in the harshest marine environment. Adhesive tapes and masking tapes.

3M Marine Polishes

Producing a smooth, highly polished finish to the gel coats on glass fibre hulls is desirable for any boat owner, from racers looking for those smallest improvements in high performance, to the leisure owner seeking to preserve that boatyard shine. Unfortunately, most commercially available polishes are designed for hard automotive finishes, making them unnecessarily harsh for fine GRP hulls. Now 3M has developed a new system of boat polishing compounds specifically formulated to provide the optimum finish on marine production gel coats.

3M Marine Imperial Compound and Finishing Material uses abrasives that have been engineered to match the hardness of commercial marine gel coats, the product can be applied after sanding, using a wool pad, to remove grade P600 or finer sand scratch marks and gel coat oxidisation quickly and easily, leaving a high quality finish with no swirl or scratch marks.

3M Marine Imperial Compound contains no wax or silicone and has been optimised for machine application with air or electric buffers operating at 1500 to 2500 rpm, using 3M Superbuff or Hookit compounding pads. It can also be applied by hand using a soft cloth.

For those seeking the ultimate shine, the 3M Marine polishing system is completed with an application of 3M Marine Finesse-it II Finishing Material using a slow speed polisher. A formulation designed to help boatbuilders and owners achieve the highest possible finish quality on topside paint systems and gel coat, Finesse-it II quickly removes swirls and leaves an immaculate glazed finish. Finesse-it II can be applied with 3M’s specially designed Superbuff finishing pads, which are designed for perfectly controlled polishing without leaving surface marks.

3M Marine Imperial Compound and Finesse-it II finishing compound are both available in 1 litre bottles from leading chandlers. The new finishing system joins 3M’s comprehensive range of marine maintenance and finishing products.
