4-Stroke Outboard Motors

Suzuki has a reputation for advanced engineering design and excellent product build - this will be experienced with any of the Suzuki outboards you might purchase.

Four-stroke outboard engines are clearly the next big wave in marine power and Suzuki have developed a range which combine the latest 4-stroke innovations with 35 years experience of the marine engine sector.

The goal has been to meet the increasing demands of the boat owner for efficient engines with good performance across the power band, clean economic running and low noise/vibration - How have we achieved this? - the answer is by combining many advanced engineering features some of the major ones being:

Suzuki 3 Year Warranty

3 Years Warranty

All Suzuki outboards sold in Europe carry a 2 year pan-European warranty (commercial-1year), in addition Suzuki outboards imported by Suzuki GB PLC and retailed after the 1st January 2006 are eligible, on registration for use in the UK and Ireland, to an additional 1 year warranty.

Suzuki strongly recommends that the outboard is regularly serviced in accordance with the schedule published in Owners Manual to maximise reliability and longevity of the outboard.

This warranty does not affect your statutory rights.

Suzuki Engine Management Systems (40/50/60/70/90/115/140hp models)

This controls every aspect of the engines performance, enables much more accurate control of the running of the motor to be achieved and eliminates most possibilities of human error. Modern outboards are no longer purely mechanical and, as with other engines for automobiles etc, performance has improved dramatically by the incorporation of computer technology. The Suzuki engine management system controls the engine ignition system and provides the ideal fuel supply under all operating conditions making adjustments for engine wear and ensuring optimum performance throughout the life of the motor. It also enables engine safeguards to be incorporated such as over rev limiter, oil change reminder system and enables servicing to be simplified by using a plug-in diagnostic programme on a lap top computer to interrogate the inbuilt engine management module.

Multi Point Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection (40/50/60/70/90/115/140hp models)

By employing Suzukis unique Electronic Fuel Injection as opposed to standard carburettors reduces fuel consumption by up to 50%. The Suzuki Digital Multipoint Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection system is the most sophisticated of all outboard motor systems. It not only saves fuel and oil but also enables the world's toughest engine emissions regulations to be met - CARB 2008 - which calls for a further reduction of 65% over and above EPA2006. This ensures that wherever you are these engines will meet any known future emissions requirements and give peace of mind that no matter how long you keep it you will not be banquished from the water.

The system delivers fuel to the engine through high pressure injectors which release fuel in the most efficient way - responding to engine management system commands. The result is miserly fuel consumption, clean running, quick throttle response and instant starts.

Compact Design (All models)

Suzuki 4-stroke outboard motors have low profile slim hoods with a smooth exteriors so there is nowhere to snag clothes or fishing lines. The DF90/115 and 140 are outstanding, achieving remarkable compactness by off setting the crankshaft and driveshaft by using intermediate reduction gearing. The result is that they are the most compact in their class reducing the profile of the motor on the transom and improving weight distribution, balance and directional stability.

Inside/Outside Corrosion Protection (All models)

Corrosion can make short work of a good outboard motor, but it doesn't stand a chance with a Suzuki outboard. During production, each Suzuki motor is treated with chromate and sealed with a double coat of melamine resin primer, and every critical nut, bolt and washer is protected with a coat of dacromate. A network of grounding wires is incorporated into the engine's design, leading to a number of replaceable zinc anodes positioned on the outside surfaces and in the water jacket surrounding the cylinder head. As a result, corrosion builds up on the 'sacrificial' anodes instead of on important engine surfaces.

DOHC 4-Valve Engines (40/50/90/115/140hp models)

Not only does the double overhead cam design produce exceptional power but also its compact combustion chamber and centre mount spark plugs provide thorough combustion with excellent fuel efficiency. Following the 3-cyclinder DF 50 and DF40 the new DF115 and DF90 also take full advantage of this engine's characteristics with their 4-cylinder layouts.

Multifunction Tachometer (40/50/60/70/90/115/140hp models)

Suzuki's Multi-Function Tachometer incorporates a comprehensive monitoring system that immediately alerts the operator in the event that any abnormalities are found in key engine functions.

Suzuki Precision Control (300hp)

Advanced Fly-By-Wire Technology Provides Superior Control and Easier Rigging For Single, Twin, and Triple Motors

Designed for the world’s first 300 HP 4-stroke outboard motors, Suzuki’s new DF300Suzuki Precision Control is a computer based, fly-by-wire electronic throttle and shift system that puts unprecedented power right at the boater’s fingertips. Using advanced electronic technology; the system delivers precise throttle control and instantaneous, decisive shifting while eliminating the friction and resistance often associated with mechanical cable controls.

Digital CDI with Ignition Coil (4/5hp 4-Stroke Models)

The DF4 and DF5 are the first outboards in the world to utilise a Digital CDI ignition system equipped with an ignition coil. The single unit system is compact, lightweight and corrosion resistant. It also acts as an over-rev limiter while providing stable idling.

High Output Alternators (25/40/50/60/70/90/115/140hp models)

High output alternators deliver plenty of power to keep all of your electronics up and running even during long hours of trolling.

Low Noise and Vibration (All 4-Stroke Models)

When idling only the tell tale water jet will assure you that the motor is running. Very low noise enabling you to talk normally to your passengers or crew when out on the water together with very little engine vibration adds to the pleasure of boating.

Enhanced Air Intake System (140hp)

The 2044cc DOHC engine produces 68.5 hp per litre - far more than any comparative 4-strokes. Suzuki achieved this high power to displacement by introducing a new design of enhanced air intake system. A large air induction port on the cover maximises the airflow which enters the intake and is first channelled into a large silencer then through a long branch aluminium intake manifold and finally into the cylinders via the high performance DOHC four valve per cylinder head. Exhaust efficiency is enhanced by a 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust system. Cast into the cylinder head and block this race proven technology reduced drag in the exhaust system allowing smooth exhaust flow out of the cylinders. The entire arrangement from the shape of the air intake through to the exhaust system is designed to increase low to mid range torque and provide a wide powerband.

Corrosion Resistant Stainless Steel Water Pump Housings (All Models)

Pre-cast corrosion resistant stainless steel water pump housings ensure that pumps will stay intact if overheating occurs.

Solid State Ignition (40/50/60/70/90/115/140hp models)

Produces twice as much power to the spark plug, allowing cleaner, more complete combustion and maximising power on every stroke.

Engine Idle Air Control/Fast Idle Function and Dash Pot System (40/50/60/70/90/115/140hp models)

These provide stable engine operation at all times. The air idle control is programmed to let the engine idle at low rpm - ideal for low speed runs such as fishing. The fast idle function provides quick starts and smooth stable engine warm-ups whilst the electronic dash pot functions when there is a sudden throttle transition from open to closed, smoothly reducing rpm to lessen stress on the engine.

Power Trim and Tilt (40,50,60,70,90/115/140hp models)

Suzuki's Power Trim and Tilt system lets you make adjustments to the engine angle while underway. Manual versions of the 2.5-25hp have a gas assisted tilt mechanism for ease of raising and lowering of the engine.

Front Mounted Steering Adjuster (4/5/9.9/15/25hp models)

Tiller controlled models have a front mounted linear steering adjuster which allows steering to be tightened or loosened without tools.

Oil Cooler (140 hp)

The DF140's cooling system circulates water through not only the block but also the crankcase, intake manifold, fuel line and a newly designed oil cooler - the first on any Suzuki outboard. Fan blades incorporated into the flywheel reduce engine compartment temperature.

Centre Tiller and Controls (2.5/4/5/9.9/15/25hp models)

The tiller and controls are centrally positioned with the emergency stop switch incorporated into the handle and the clutch, start switch and LED displays located on the tiller support bracket.

Jun 2007

2012 Marine Ltd’s (www.2012marine.com ) new ‘Vampire’ 7.8 metre Commercial Rib from Ribcraft, is fitted with the groundbreaking 300hp Suzuki 4-stroke engine – ideal for long-range event support and commercial work, says Greg Marsden, Managing Director of 2012 Marine which provides specialist charter and event support solutions

“‘Vampire’ is a metre longer than our previous Ribcraft and if we had not been able to fit the new 300hp, we would have either used a single Suzuki 250hp or twin 175hp engines. Twin engines would have meant carrying more fuel and 55% more weight onboard,” he says. “The 300hp is only 10kg heavier than the 250hp, it has reduced drag, additional power and is fuel-efficient so it was the obvious choice. It also has the benefits of reduced servicing costs that come with a twin set-up.

“Suzuki’s new precision control system is also impressive. The engine is responsive, with no perceived lag, and gives the skipper a positive feeling of control,” he adds.

‘Vampire’ also incorporates Ullman Dynamic Seating and the latest integrated Raymarine electronics, including RADAR, AIS and the Wireless life tag system. It also has the ability to show Suzuki engine management data on the C & E series plotters.

The boat has already supported the Round the Island race and will be the lead support boat for the Bladerun Rally from 25-28 July, (www.Bladerun.com) when 30 teams of celebrities, businessmen and adventurers cross the Channel from Ramsgate to Amsterdam.

Support for the world record attempt by the greatest number of windsurfers ever to cross the Channel is penciled in for ‘Vampire’ later this year. It is also hoped that the boat will take part in the Round Britain Race in 2008.
